first post and new to the forums!
wondering if you coiled copper pipe through the fins, you could run a external electric pump and radiator to hybrid water/air cool it? just wondering if anyone has tried it and if it works.

Well first off welcome to the forums..
That's a very interesting idea, I couldn't see why it wouldn't work? But I would have to wonder why you would want to do it??
On most air cooled motors the cooling happens at the end of the cooling fin. But you still want air to pass over the whole length, and around the cylinder itself.
I would have to wonder if the tubing would buffet the air passing over the fin, and create hot spots in your head? The jug wouldn't be affected as much (at least I don't think anyway?) You also have to remember that the fins are designed to maximize air flow...

But in the long run (and this is where my point comes in) you would still have to use a fan to force air threw the rad when stopped, or on a slow trail.. You might as well just use the fan to blow air over the motor, and not even bother with the tubing..

Just say'n.

im talkin coiling the pipe deep in the fins just around the jug to make it run cooler; that way you wouldnt have to mess with the oil system.:iagree:

the size tubing that you'd have to use to get it between the fins wouldn't allow enough water to flow to cool anything. it'd do more harm than good by just blocking air flow

Cooling the oil is the best way to prolong the engines life. Although it does help to keep engine temps down, it doesn't help cool the cylinder, and the head..
Like I mentioned, and Warriorgirl said.. Disrupting the airflow will do more harm than good. It is an interesting concept, but it's just not feasible.

Using an oil cooler, and a small fan to keep air moving over the engine are the best ways to conqueror heat.

i was talking about it last year! but after this motor build i will have a tig and a spare head and jug to test on! so ill be the first to actually do it!

as soon as i get my miller hooked up and tuned and get my new super secret project ready to start i may beat ya to it ;p

Must be another warrior lol

might be... might not be.doesn't have to be a warrior to test a custom liquid cooling setup.

anyway if you want more oil cooling go with a setup something like this (fans size anywhere from 4" and up)

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DER-16749/
or
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-3651/
for the fan controller

and
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRM-19127/

for a fan

and if the get a fan that will pull through the oil cooler and also blow air out the back then you can place it to blow across the cooling fins.

the fan i posted is the highest CFM in a small size fan... should move a **** ton of air

Awesome.. Thanx for the links Warriorgirl.
I know the fan I want, if I can ever get my 12volt conversion figured out?
