Also, when you line the cam sprocket up at the top, it will never be perfect with the dot, it will either be a bit left or right. Make sure the sprocket dot is just barely left of the dot, so that when you put the tensioner on the cam chain it pulls it right, or back to center.
It's something a lot of people have done and it seems to work. If it doesn't work, then I"ll just get my stock one repaired and take the shims out. I have it in a shop right now getting tuned, stuff too detailed for me, so we'll see when I get it back.
Timing the balancer is pretty easy from what I’ve heard, there is a dot on each gear, and all you do is line them up (with the gears keyed in place of course). If I’m wrong , I’d like to know the proper way.
Is it ok to run my motor at zero deck height? I have put a +4 stroker in and put a thick gasket under the cylinder to put it at 0 deck height. Will the valves hit? Also would I be able to run any pump fuel?
The crankshaft is Hot Rods and the cylinder/piston is a relatively cheap kit but every review said very good things, and the next step up from it was about $400 at the time.
I have the crank though, all I need is the piston, and I don’t really have that much money to drop on just a piston. I may just go with a vertex and bore the cylinder to size and shim it with a thicker gasket if I need to.
