With out looking at a diagram it's hard to say for sure, but I'd say fix that for sure cut and rewire it also how's your timing still good I've learnt with my warrior that Yamahas need to be almost bang on

It's a2002 lol I solved the issue there's a switch on the left brake that wasn't activating, or deactivating, I'm not sure so I disconnected it and it runs fine guessing it was a safety switch lol either way it hasn't given me a problem since, I tried to re connect it and it did the same thing...

My buddy had a similar issue on his 300ex except when he pulled the clutch it would start, I say similar cause it's on the same side as the kill switch, anyways more to the point. He stripped the left handle of all his switches. Electrical cables ad re built it found a few fraud wires replaced...
