what makes a shock stiff?

i was wondering what makes a shock stiff? is it thespring or just the shock its self?

Im guessing a combination of both

I would say the spring does. The shock its self dampens the ride. Remove the spring and you could easily compress the shock

how old is the shock bc it could b just bad if it is real hard the spring is just for how high it sits and a lil to do with how it rides but i would say that it is a bad shock if it is real hard

oic you can make your shock softer at the bottom just turn the adjuster to how soft you want it are hard and just set it up to how you ride

and the shock rate should b the same for both shocks

it's a combination of the spring rate and the internal valving slowing it down. different valves inside determine the rate of the fluid moving through
