I’ve recently purchased a 89 warrior that would not run. Replaced the carburetor (it was pretty bad) and all new gaskets and filters and all. Even checked the piston rings and honed the bore a little (didn’t even really need it ) and everything looks pretty good but all I can get is rarely a backfire pop and a little smoke. And that’s only if I use lots of started fluid. I’m assuming it’s the timing at this point because I don’t know what else it could be. It’s not exact and the tensioner is pretty far out but it’s definitely tight enough. I’m seeing a lot of places that it will never be exact so I’m lost. Lots of compression and the valves seem ok. Any ideas? (I can provide pictures if necessary)
