are you talking on the outside of the wire or inside the boot that goes on the plug?
 
Has anyone heard of putting Vaseline in your spark plug wires to keep you bike from backfiring through the carb when the plug wires get wet?

That's some ghetto **** right there. Like Alex said use dielectric grease

I usually squirt a little in the boot to go over the plug. Dielectric, not vaseline that is! And I believe it's to keep the water out of the plug so it doesn't arc electrically across from tip to bottom of the porcelain.
