Starting issue

Bought a 2003 Warrior and it has been giving me major grief. Had a weak battery and the "click" from the starter solenoid, so replaced both. Went to start it last night and all I got again was a "click" from the left rear where the solenoid is. This morning, for the heck of it, I tapped the starter with a wrench and it fired right up.

Does this sound like a starter issue? Brushes? Would like to know before I tear into it in case that isn't the problem. Been trying to research online without much luck.

I'd just get a new starter.

I might end up doing that, but I would like input from someone as to what the actual issue might be, rather than just throwing parts at it not knowing.
