Ok, so you want to make more power, but don't want to go all-out with en engine kit. Put a pipe on, but still runs kinda hinky? Jet it up, but still kinda flat? Take-off that stock head pipe and look into it where it bolts-up to the head. See the flange, where pipe meets head? See that big, ugly, bird-poop like weld holding the flange in? That is one BIG restriction to exhaust gas! Take your grinder, and knock that sucker down. Just grind the weld until you've opened up the pipe inlet to the same diameter as the rest of the pipe. If you have the head off, use the gasket as a template to match the pipe to the exhaust port. CAUTION: don't go nuts here, you don't want to go opening-up the exhaust port...that's better left to the pros. If you feel like getting fancy, match your intake port to the intake boot as well. More power? Probably, depends on engine condition and parts-combination...better throttle response? Most definately! Little things add-up...ANYBODY can do this!
