Mixture screw

Any tips on adjusting the mixture screw. It's on the bottom of the carb and I cant get anything to fit under there to turn it with. I was thinking about loosening the boot clamps and turning the carb so I can back out the mixture 1/2 turn and put it back upright and try it out. My only real problem is it idles for about 25 or 20 seconds and then dies but starts right back up. It does this over and over. Any ideas ? Also my idle speed screw seems very sluggish in changing the idle speed up or down. I think it's too lean at idle. If I set the idle speed a little high it has a flat spot when jabbing the throttle. Doesn't do that when the idle is set a little slow. What do you think ?:argh:

Get a small flat head driver and bend an L in the end.

Or a straight tip bit from a driver bit set.
