choke seal

Carb rebuild, choke seal

anybody know which way the choke seal goes into the carb? I'm rebuilding it and there wasn't an existing one in there. does it go in with the open side of the seal towards you or away from you?
I can't seem to fit it in, it seems wider than the hole. I'm thinking it doesn't go here.

This is the piece I am talking about

One side has a ridge in the middle and the other side is smooth.

Went to Yamaha today and they told me that this part DOES NOT belong on the carb and I got my money back. They said their parts fiche is WRONG and there is no seal inside the choke. This knowledge could be useful to someone in the future.
