Been chasing down an electrical problem on an 89 Warrior. Basically have no spark. Replaced plug, checked switches, neutral seems to work. So I started with the cheap and replaced coil, then stator, now looking to bite the bullet and buy a CDI box.

Problem is, nobody seems to make an aftermarket CDI for an 89. There an OEM one on ebay for $430, but the quad isn't worth much more than that and I really don't want to buy a used one for $200 not knowing if it actually works or not........

Can the entire wiring harness be switched out with a later model year (like a 90) to take advantage of easy to get components or is there a way to wire in a different CDI? I can't be the only one out there having these issues

well, i would think that the 90 is the same as the 89. i think it goes from 87-88, 89-04? someone can correct me if i am mistaken.

I keep reading that the 89 is a unique year and in the manual the CDI box wiring is different from the 89 and the 90-95 years

You'd have to splice wires and hope for the best or, if you switch the CDI you have to switch all you electrical hookups too, the couplings are whats different. I believe there are 4 different types of hookups. I don't remember the years breakdown at the moment though.

Keep lookin, I'm sure you can snag one up guaranteed to work used. And if it doesn't, you can send it back saying it don't work.

Here is a few that I found,

http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-Warrior-...ors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aa4afbf6c
that one is for an 89

this one says 89 to 96 so you will have to find out the yyear for sure from the seller

here is another
http://cgi.ebay.com/87-Yamaha-Warri...ors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4152f2c838

All of the above should fit and are under $100.00 as of now, but bidding hasn't ended. I'm sure if you contact buyer they will should tell/warranty it works.

I wouldn't go with the CDI just yet i did and it wasn't what was actually wrong with it, it was actually the trigger inside the stator side cover you prolly did not see it when you replaced the stator.

It looks like the picture below, i would do this before i did the CDI these triggers are about $30 on ebay.

When I replaced my stator it came with a pickup coil. Complete package from rmstator cost was $150

i cnt remember for sure or not but 96 or 97 was an odd year for the cdi box also....and also check ur wiring on the frame near the cdi box follow the wires ....i had fray wires on mine underneath the tape....
