Big Bear help

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? My dad has an 01 BB 400 4x4 that doesn't like to idle right. To make it idle I have to turn the idle up real high and it sputters the whole time, even at part throttle. At full throttle it runs fine. Anyway to make it idle normal without sputtering? It also backfires loudly when I finally kill it.

I'd start by looking at the carb. I'm wondering if there's some gunk in the bowl or if one of your jets is clogged.
