Help. Damned wiring...

I bought a 90 warrior on the cheap with the wiring butchered to hell. The guy I got it from bought a new stator and cdi then he burnt up the cdi and cut up the wiring harness trying to fix it so I am pretty much starting from scratch. from what i understand stators are pretty much all the same except for plugs, rectifiers are the same 87 to 95 and everything else is fubar so if you had to build an ignition from scratch what year up to 95 or aftermarket would you use? This is a stock quad so the high perf stuff is probably a waste.
