Ive had my quad for about 2 years and still have the stock chain on and have never touched it. Ive measured it and by the books its still in the right measurments of play.
 
15/40 and 22s is 8.27 ratio, getting way out of the warriors torque range

Would that be good for me? Im getting 22's and i have a web cam race cam, titanium springs, edelbrock, hmf slip on, clamp on filter with open box? Would that work pritty good in an xc race? Would i be bogged down or would i accelerate too fast and shift too much or would it be pritty good?
 
Bro 15/40 and 22 is a 8.27 ratio, 16/40 and 22s is an 8.80 ratio, way outta even a modded 350s torque range.
 
yea I can vouch for the torque! I am rollin on an 11 tooth front sprocket and a 44 tooth rear. ITs pretty badass cause IT echoes in the fields I ride in and sounds sick cause I shift so fast......MY top speed is like 35 mph lol but its so much fun...Oh and it wheelies like a MoFO
 
I'm sorry but, I'm a really big noob when it comes to this but how do you check how many teeth? And where and all that? I really don't know much about what you're talking about, but I would really like to know if the previous owner did anything to it.
 
With my mods (I have a Big Gun Race exhaust that isn't listed), what would be the proper sprockets for a 1000 ft radar run on ice. I run studded tires and I have very low rolling resistance on ice. I have 20" tires and 14-40 sprockets. I was thinking of going with 15-40, but I am not sure that I would have enough power to top out 6th in that distance. Does anyone have any experience with this? I am guessing that asphalt and ice with tire studs have about the same amount of resistance.

just count the teeth on the sprockets (the things the drive chain is on) mark one tooth with a marker and count around that will tell you how many teeth you have on each. when they list it on here they put the motor sprocket first then the axle sprocket as in 14/40. hope that helps.
 
how about a 15t front with a stock rear with 20" tires and fmf pipe with k&n also have airbox lid cut

ok you seem to know all about this, what would i go with if i wanted some good torque and speed? * im kinda new too, just not AS new lol *
 
i believe mine is great for the power range (14/40) BUT I WOULD LIKE TO TRY A 14/39 OR 38 SETUP TO SEE HOW IT DOES
 
Ok, I see all the ratio's for 18",20" and 22's. How about a ratio that works with a 21" extreme paddle tire. Powered by a 430cc,ported head,megacycle cam and 40mm edlebrock. Running stock ratio and need more top end going up the hill.
 
I tried the 14/40 when my motor was stock, and it finished off my clutch! Currently running the 13/40, and would like to try 14/40 again, but I see from the dave76 post above that it reccommends a 16/40, I am wanting more out of my stroker, but a little apprehensive after the 14/40 clutches thing. Anyone have any particular experience with the 16/40 on a strokesd warrior?

Go with the smallest sprockets you can run (for the given ratio you want) without dragging over the swingarm under load. Thank me later! :D

Smaller sprockets = less chain = less chain weight.
Smaller front sprockets = less influence (torque) the chain weight and chain friction have on the engine. This is ESPECIALLY true when you run an o-ring chain. Not as much if you have a race chain.

For instance, if you like a 16/40, you'll love a 12/30! Or a 13/32 or 13/33 if there are clearance problems with the 12/30.

If you like the 13/40, try a 12/37.

If you like 14/40, go with a 13/38 or 12/35. Both are a bit lower than the 14/40, but still taller than the 13/40. Both the less restrictive driveline and the lower gearing might save the clutch.
 
Problem with this is sprocket availability. If you look around you'll find that the smallest rear sprocket out there that fits a yamaha hub is 38 or 40, something like that. I've heard of guys rigging up honda hubs on yamahas to run smaller rear sprockets, but the axle splines don't match the hub splines in this case, so that's a whole other story...

To be honest with you 16/40 might even be a bit much for a 446, I have that gear but haven't tryed it yet. For the 396 I'd say stick with the 40 rear and use a 15 front.

Oh yes, you're right. 38 is as small as you can go (37 if 1986-88). Bummer, but at least 13/38 is still possible. And 12/37 with a bit of work....
