Finished up some work on the KFX

wow, old one. I'm still around here a bit, don't really have much time to get on the internet lately, 60 hour work weeks on the midnight shift= I sleep a lot. The KFX got a few more little things since then, nerfs, skids, graphics, fender trim, but that's about it.

    BEER?

Yeah, you can tell it's a boys poll, there's no whiskey on there. Go sip some Tullamore Dew or some Jack (more of a bourbon than anything if you ask me) and get back to me.

    quad racer r450

The 450r has the same 12:0-1 compression ratio. General rule is anything over 12.5:1 is race gas. I'm running 12.1:1 on a minimum of 93 (sometimes Sunoco 94 or some toulene/xylene mix). With anything under 93 I had some minor detonation above 8k rpms. I know of a lot of people running pump...

    i dont know.....

Check to make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks anywhere. It will rev and the head pipe will glow red because it's lean. Check the carb boots to make sure they're on all the way and getting a good seal.

Finished up some work on the KFX

Thanks guys. I haven't gotten to really run the shocks hard yet because of my back but they are definately better than the stockers. They have a very plush ride but still soak up the bumps and sit about 1/2" lower than stock. They corner much more level as well. There's about 1 full inch of...

Finished up some work on the KFX

Here's the link to the my thread on z400central.com http://www.z400central.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=48466 I broke my back a couple months ago and they won't let me work yet so I've been trying to stay busy. So, while fixing a few things that broke when I wrecked, I decided to add a...

    ??some questions??

No, not the warrior reverse (did they change it on the raptor 350?). The Z/KFX is a remote mounted, cable operated reverse unit.

    Tusk Clutch

Which Mobil1 did you use? and what did your clutch plates look like? What DSW was getting at about oils is that most automotive synthetic oils add friction modifiers. You can't use these with a wet clutch system, your new clutch won't last more than a few hours. Most motorcycle synthetics...

    ??some questions??

Hot starts are used on big bore thumpers with kick starts. When the engine is hot it's harder to start because the intake air charge is heat soaked. The hot start lever opens a valve on carb that is after the slide, letting in fresh air to help clean up the air/fuel mixture for faster starts...

New edelbrock slide & adjuster :(

Yeah, they warn you of that in the manual I got for the one on my KFX. They also warn you of the possibility of the check needle falling out of the bowl when you have it off... however I missed that section :-/ . But like you said Death, parts arent very expensive and I've had nothing but...

    polaris irs sport quad?

I'm guessing it's going to ride great in the trails and the rough stuff. Much less high centering at least. Polaris has always had a good thing with the Fox Podiums, they are actually really good aluminum body shocks. Then again they added 40lbs and took the resevoirs off the front shocks...

    cutting down exhausts....

Yes, that's usually the case. The short length of MX exhausts serves a double purpose. It creates more bottom end grunt, good for powering out of corners. And it also keeps your expensive pipe from getting destroyed in a rear-end situation. Of course pipe length isn't the only factor in...

I'm new, so here's my story of wreckless stupidity

As Death said, this stuff happens all the time, it's the nature of the sport. This isn't Curling...no offense to any Curlers. I have a fairly dangerous job and I've known guys that have been injured or killed on the job. I'd much rather go out doing something that I love. So instead of...
