Warrior Wiring Harness Questions

i have a '96 Warrior with a bad harness...i bought a replacement one but it has a different plug for the CDI box(2 plugs,black and yellow),so i got another one and it will plug into the CDI but not the stator and pickup coil...after some research i've figured out that my quad has a newer model harness (square plugs) and stator/pickup coil harness with an older model CDI box (1 plug)

what gives with the Frankenstein harness?
would it work to just replace the CDI with one that mates to my newer harness?

yamaha is notorious for changing the connectors and it is a pain in the ass. the best advice i can give you is to get a harness specific to your year quad, or take all the tape off and replace the bad wires.
