So, I'm rebuilding my 87 motor.. Again.. It's had about 15 minutes of run time, it seems that engine grenaded itself, the cam pin that holds the cam on broke off and the one way bearing on the starter clutch went out, and the cam guide mount broke off. Hoping that it didn't damage the transmission. Can any one explain why that mount broke? Is this a common problem? Well since I've had to pull the motoout again, I'm gonna do it right. Going to paint the motor and frame..
 
By cam pin, do you mean the dowel that locates the sprocket on the end of the camshaft? If so, that dowel breaks out when the bolt backs off, often do to improper torque specs and not using loctite. Maybe get some pics up, because I don't really know what you are referring to with the cam guide mount...
