most all water cooled 2 smokes are coated cylinders (alot of newerish 4strokes too) but it costs anywhere from $50 to $200 for a cylinder coating depending on what bike it's off of
Suzuki's aren't coated... lol
I know that the honda 2 strokes after 91' were, and Kawi started doing it in the late 80's... I'm not sure what other motors were?

But I think that your price quote is about spot on.. That coating can come back to kick your ass on a rebuild.

yep i know. another reason why zuki's are the best :). they're 4 stroke water cooled bikes are though :/.

The 250 kawis weren't coated until the late 90s
Sorry but your wrong on that 88.. I think that 87' or 88' might have been the first year they did it? My KX125 was a 91', and it was coated. I also know for a fact that the Tecate 4, 250 cylinders were coated. But the Tecate 3 wheelers weren't.

the 89 rm250's are coated, i have one sitting at my shop right now with a scored cylinder, exactly why its still sitting there lol.

i had an 89 kx250, it was a cool old bike, bout as much power as my 01 yz125 tho, old technology, so dont be fooled by the cc size, it ran great, handled great for its age, but it lacked 250 power by todays standards, and yes, i rebuilt it, it wasnt low on compression or anything

84 and 85 cr's were the fastest straight line bikes built. in 86 the government started regulating dirt bikes more because so many people got killed on the earlier bikes :p. them honda's with the atac power valve are nice! wish i still had my '84

Hey PM me about leakdowns.. Tools I'd need and a simple run down. Would be much appreciated.

you have to build a leakdown tester to fit the carb boot for it to work and to plug of the exhaust port with a freeze plug

doesnt look to bad i havent had experince with them bikes but it looks like a good buy for the price. make him an offer.

I had a 2001 kx250 last year and it was great. I'm only 16 and I could handle it real good, she keeps up with the 450's easily. Of course you'll have to throw your money into oil and a rebuild every year or so. But they're a lot of fun espessialy for that price.

So I took my $750 KX250 to a mechanic that charges 45 an hour... Just to find out that the clutch needs a total re-build, the kick starter needs work, and it totals to 400 of parts and 250 of labor... Time to cut losses?
