While checking things out on the dutchman today I looked at the cam, gear and chain. All look to be quite new. The guy I got it from said it was rebuilt. My question is this: I can see the cam through the valve cover but cant see any markings. Any way to tell what it is without taking the head off?

You can spin you'd engine toTDC. Remove your cam gear/chain.
Remove your cam gear retainer.
Then slide your cam out.

If you hack a dial indicator you could set to up to map the cam off of the lobes. But it would be far easier to just pull the cam.

Or you can just pick your favorite cam and tell everyone that's what it is.☺

I might pull it and check. Just so I know what it is. Everything looks new. Can you hear a diff with a cam? I know you can in a car, more "lope"

I'm not sure if you can hear a difference. I sure didn't. I tore mine down to replace a valve and low and behold I had a hotcam in it!
And it sure didn't have a lope to it like a car engine.

Hmmmm, not sure what to do. Maybe ill just leave it. Runs good and looks new. Why rip it apart?
