just bought a new 1mm over wiesco piston and had my cylinder bored and honed by a reputable shop. my question is my rings are measuring at 12 and 16 thou for the gaps. In the Yamaha service manaul, it says the extreme limit is 12 thou? is there any fluctuations between the years? or is something wrong with my rings and i need new ones? could someone look up the limit for the 2000?

what does wiseco specify? Yamaha specs are valid with yamaha parts. You are now aftermarket

wiseco says to measure the piston and multiply by .004 and that should give you the number, which roughly comes to about 12 or 13 thou

the compression ring gaps for both are 8-16 in. the oil rings are 12-36 in.

Go by what Wiesco tells you and you will be just fine. They might be using a different ring materal or think that the ring will expand more in the more and want to run more gap. Really it's ok to have a little more gap then it is to have not enough.
