muffler question

This might be a dumb question but I'd rather ask before i do something potentially stupid lol. I have an 01 warrior with stock exhaust and everything is apart right now. If I shake the muffler it rattles but the tip is so bent up that I cant pull the baffles/spark arestor out. What kind of damage could it cause if I just cut the tip of the muffler back far enough that I can remove/gut it?

musta been a dumber question that i thought lol im gonna go ahead and gut it and worst case i can get the tip welded back on lol
