Rear suspension question

Hello all, I recently purchased a 2007 wolverine 450 that is in need of a bit of work. So far I've replaced the a arms, wheel bearings, ball joints, Tie rods, breaks, rear shock, and some other miscellaneous parts. My question is about my rear shock. The previous shock was bent and had some play to it, so I bought a brand new shock. It appears to still have a small amount of play at the rear of the shock which is only held in with a pin, and a cotter pin. The top of the shock is nice and tight, but the bottom has a little play. Is this normal?
