Death, Pelphrey, and anyone else who knows much about computers, I need your advice/opinions. What is the best anti virus software? I've got Norton Antivirus but it is expiring so I've got to decide whether to get it again or go with something else. I appreciate any advice ya'll can give me.

Symantec (Norton) continues to be the best software - they work directly with numerous security groups and often have the critical new threat virus definitions way before anyone else.

I wouldn't piss on McAfee to put out a fire - in one word "****"...

*If you format your computer and re-install Norton you will have another year of free updates!!! You may want to consider doing this instead since its beneficial in more then one way...

I've been running the free antivirus I posted above on all 3 of my computers for years without any trouble, and when I build computers for people or work on other people's computers I always install it. It doesnt' have some of the fancy **** that the expensive antiviruses do, but more isn't always best. When there's less unnecesscary features you have less possibility for something to go wrong. Download it and give it a try, and if you don't like it try something else, but I don't think you'll have any complaints about it.

rofl ok... What certifications in internet security and corporate advanced networking/programming do you have to make such a call? The FACT is that norton gets the defenitions and produces most fixes FIRST before ANYONE (including a shitty anti-virus prog) making it the best. The norton software also has ADVANCED script detection to pick up files not defined yet by corporate; bells like that are worth it...

"When there's less unnecesscary features you have less possibility for something to go wrong." <- I have never heard such crap...

If free software fails to pick up scripts and other virri why would you have any complaints about it? You would not know they are on your computer...

n00b... ;)

I'm not saying that Norton isn't better than my free one. My computer never gives me any trouble with the free one, so I don't see a point in paying for one. Maybe for you, since you're using your computers 8 hours a day a better antivirus is worth the money, but for me it isn't. I don't understand all of this about scripts and other virri, but if I don't know it's on my computer then I don't care about it. Just like i don't give a **** that there's mice in my house as long as they don't eat my doritos.

Yeah bro but the thing is there is a lot of **** that less advanced software lets by that norton doesnt. I need my porn streaming all day with no problems; id be devistated.

I went back with Norton. I installed by the book (well, I laid the book BY the puter when I pulled the disk out) and had no problem. The book will make a good coaster and thats probably the only way I'll use it! If I have any problems, I'll ask em online about it.

Thanks for all the input ya'll!
