I just got a 2004 warrior 350. It idles fine. But when you put it in gear it dies. You can force it to keep running if you hold the throttle down and it will go really slow. I was told by previous owner the boot for the crab needs to be replaced would that cause these issues

Usually a problem with the carb boot will cause it to rev really high at idle. Sounds like the main jet in your carb might be plugged up a bit.

Grab a can of spray carb cleaner and while it is running spray around the boot including both ends where it joins the cylinder and the carb. Any change in rpm indicates an air leak. If it is leaking, I suggest an OEM(Yamaha) boot.
