    660 raptor shock question

On my 87 I used the same clamps that were on the original Warrior shock reservoir and drilled a couple holes in the plastic part of the rear fender that runs forward from the fenders along the frame just under the seat. The holes are near the bottom of the plastic so that the reservoir sits...

    new spark problem

If it seems like the starter is whirling over the engine okay, and you are getting an intermittent spark, it's probably not the battery. I would check the resistance of the stator pick-up coils. You might also have a bad connection in one of the wires for the pick-up coil, which sometimes is...

    Front/Rear Tire Size for Warrior

All, I'd like to replace the tires on my '87, but I was wondering about the size difference between front and rear. I'd like to go w/ a 20" rear, which would probably mean a 21" front, but I have chance to buy a set of 22x7x10's for cheap. Would a 2" front to back difference be too much...

    87 Warrior - Where's the VIN# ??

Thanks for the help! It's not hot, I bought it from my best friend a few months ago, he's had it since ~ 1989, bought it from a friend of his who bought it new. No title from way back when so I have to apply for one. John

    87 Warrior - Where's the VIN# ??

I'm trying to get a title for my '87 Warrior and I need the VIN#. I looked around on the frame, but didn't see it. Can someone tell me where it is located? Thanks, John

    660 rear shock owners:

My '87 w/ an '01 raptor shock had a lower roller, but it was a very small diameter white plastic one. The roller was trashed, and I went to the Yamaha dealer for a replacement. They sold me an MSR ball bearing & urethane roller which was much larger in diameter and didn't fit on the stub shaft...

Am I the oldest one here?

Looks like I'm the oldest (and relatively new) guy here! I'm 43 and my 87 Warrior is the first one I've actually owned. I've ridden other people's many times. My 13 YO daughter is learning to ride on it as well!

Aluminum Ramp for $65 from Harbor Freight

Just got an awesome deal on an aluminum ramp from Harbor Freight. Those of you who have a Harbor Freight store nearby might want to check it out. I'm not sure if the mail order store has them on sale. They have a 6' tri-fold aluminum ramp on sale for $79 (regular $119) and had a coupon in the...

    replacing rear shock

I did it on my '87 a few weeks ago. On mine, I had to take a die grinder and grind some little 1/4" crescent-shaped reliefs on the top edge of the swing arm, at the front where the shock spring got closest to the swing arm. Without doing that, I couldn't quite get the bottom shock bolt to line...

    starter help

If you're sure you don't have some kind of a motor problem after the rebuild that's creating extra friction and causing it to not want to turn over, you could try contacting one of the aftermarket starter manufacturer/rebuilders (I think mine came from DB Electric on eBay) to see what they can...

    2001 Raptor rear shock owners

On my 87 Warrior w/ 01 Raptor rear shock, I don't have a skid plate (other than factory), but I had to do a little grinding w/ a die grinder and a carbide bit where the spring just touched the swing arm. The outer diameter of the spring is just slightly larger than the stock Warrior spring, so...

    87 Warrior Shift Problems

Thanks for everyone's help! I was out of town for several days, but I played around w/ the F/R shifter and found out that it wasn't pushed far enough forward. When I did that, everything was fine. After working on it for 3 months (starter, coil, plug wire, stator pick-up coil, new front...

    87 Warrior Shift Problems

Thanks for the quick reply! What should I check for? I have a manual, and I'll see what adjustments there are. The clutch adjustment seems okay in reverse, middle of the range of movement on handle, not jerky, not slipping. Thanks, John

    87 Warrior Shift Problems

Well I finally got my project running, and started down the driveway. Went to shift into second and it's like it went into neutral. Tried 1st and nothing happens. Messed w/ the shifter and still nothing. I shifted to neutral (light was on) and shifted to reverse. When I let out the clutch...

    Heel Guards vs. Nerf's

How much difference was there between the later model heel guards and your 87? I though about trying that, but I bought a set of Raptor 660 heel guards and foot pegs, and they were actually pretty close. The biggest thing was that the heel guards were wider that the existing fenders, so I...

    Heel Guards vs. Nerf's

I've got my 87 Warrior just abour running and I want to add something to keep from running over my leg if my feet slip off the pegs. I plan on using this for just fun trail riding, no racing. Everyone seems to recommend getting nerfs, but I'm wondering why? It would seem like the nerfs...

Where to Get Warrior Caliper Rebuild Kit

Thanks for the tips! I checked e-bay and didn't find any, but if the seals to rebuild it are only $8 at the dealer that's not bad. I hadn't checked the dealer yet, but I'm always amazed at the price differences on stuff. They wanted $40 for just the needle valve and seat assembly for my carb...

Where to Get Warrior Caliper Rebuild Kit

Any ideas on the best place to get front caliper rebuild kits w/o paying outrageous dealer prices? I have an '87 Warrior an I think they need to be rebuilt. Thanks

    Heel Guards for 87 Warrior

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear about someone else's experience trying this. I didn't really like the look of the metal footplate/plastic heelguard piece of the later models, but I thought it might still hook up. If it was simple as adding some attachment tabs, the welder is all warmed...
