New stator checks out fine but I never checked the plug cap. Spark plug looks to be on the lean side. Carb is completely stock besides a few rebuilds and all grounds are solid. Not sure if the old 87 had any parking brake wires but it's been blocked off for the 20+ years I've owned it. I did...
Went through the carb again and everything seems to be fine including the float level and accelerator pump. I also ran a new fuel line to make sure the filter wasn't clogged. Since the cheap new ignition coil helped so much I'm thinkin about ordering a Mr. Electrical or Caltric coil to see if...
Thanks Frit. Put a few miles on her tonight and I'm starting to think it is a fuel delivery problem. Feels like she's not getting enough fuel when I hit the throttle. Gonna yank the carb in the morning and see if I can figure it out.
Working on the old 87. Just replaced the stator, ignition coil and rebuilt the carb. The main problem of running for 5 minutes and then dying was finally solved with a new ignition coil. It must have been heating up. Still trying to solve another problem: She cruises along just fine at low...
I just installed a Mr. Electric in my 87 a few weeks ago and it's doing just fine so far. I can tell ya that it looked a lot nice then those Caltric pics!!!
Anybody around here anymore???:) At this point I'm thinking about taking my chances with a 88-2004 kit and seeing how it works out. I know one of the differences is that my 87 has a single throttle cable.
Just installed a Mr. Electrical stator in the old 87 and the wire colors were not a perfect match. Besides the two plastic plugs, there are two single wires in the harness which I believe run to the two pickup coils. Does it matter if these single wires are reversed? She runs fine but starts...
OK, got her put back together with the new stator and fresh oil and she runs. Ended up being about 5 quarts of the fuel/oil mix in the engine but the air box was clean and dry. She sputters at full throttle so I'm gonna rebuild the carb and see where that gets me.
Pulled the left cover this morning to replace the stator on the old 87. Was expecting some oil to drain out but was surprised to see a very large quantity (over 8 quarts!!) of a very thin fuel/oil mix hit the drain pan. Was pretty much the consistency of water!!!!! What would cause this...
Anyone run inner tubes in their tires? I've got some old Fast trekkers on the front of my 87 Warrior with really good tread on them but they are both starting to leak pretty good. I've had these tires on for at least 18 years!!! The backs are Bear Claws and just as old but are not leaking at...
I'm gonna be doing this in the morning before I order parts. My 87 runs great for about 7 minutes and then starts to stutter and dies. Once it cools off it will fire up and do the exact same thing. Is this procedure the same for an 87 Warrior with two pickup coils? And a super dumb question...
