replacing cam chain?

is this a hard task to do? can i pull it off without taking the flywheel off?

It's not very hard.

-Just remove the cam chain tensioner and cam sprocket cover
-take the chain off of the cam sprocket (you'll probably need to remove the cam sprocket)
-let the chain fall into the flywheel compartement
-then you would be able to remove it without pulling of the flywheel

Removing the flwheel would be a lot easier though.

Yes,and by removing the flywhell you can check your one way bearing by the same time

My yamaha dealer got me the flywheel puller for $32.
