I have a question and i dont mean to be rash, but isnt the exhaust supposed to be polished as close to chrome as possible, maybe its just the pics but it looks rough. I am planning on doing some port work myself here in a week or 2.

Why ports are “finished” instead of polished:

Its because of a thing we call a "boundry layer".

In the old days ports were polished to mirror finish. This operation was both time consuming and also found to produced no power advantage. We now use finishes that textured rather than smooth. Head specialists have developed his own finish they feel work the best.

The reason behind the textured finish is the “boundary layer” The boundary layer is the layer of air molecules at the surface. These air molecules actually are not moving along the surface but are stationary. By texturing the surface of the port, these boundary layer air molecules will fit into the nooks and crannies effectively making the boundary layer thinner, which increases the effective flow area and in a sense making the port "larger". The textured ports flow better and promote better ionization.

Thought id bring back an oooooold thread.

unless you really know what you're doing you can do more harm than good. This kind of thing is best left to someone that is already good at it.

Around $350.00 with a good valve job; you can have the best port work in the world and it means dick with out an equally kick ass VJ (like a full race port with a 3-angle = crap).

(like a full race port with a 3-angle = crap).

Why is that crap? a full race port with a 3angle... shouldnt that be good, not crap?

If u could marry a SERDI machine, i think u would, lmao. But a P&P mixed with a normal 3-angle, is it good or bad?

ok i work at a small engine shop and help out at my cousins speed shop and have buil a few jr dragster motors for my dads friend and ive ported and winessed porting on many of these the exhaust, combustion chamber, valves, valveseats, are all supposed to be as smooth as possible then polished while the intake port being slightly rough then polished to allow ait and fuel mixture to fully mix heres a porting link http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.shtm

that is old school porting for the last time if your going to continue to argue about this I am going to ******* ban you.

You are 15 years old going against 50 year old professionals (at this age they all think they know everything though). We port using a Factory Pro Dyno with load to get the best results we can; we don’t just port the thing and give it back to the customer not knowing how much of an increase has been accomplished; if we don’t like the results and think we can get better it comes back off and is worked on again then returned to the Dyno room.

As I analyzed that site further that you posted to back up your claim I came to realize it is for a company selling abrasive product not porting race heads... humm... let me see American v8 was desighed in what year, 1930s i think, yes that is cutting edge technology, not like a 2005 r1 or gsxr750/1000 or even a warrior, so lets compare apples to apples!

jr dragsters! A ******* briggs and stratton motor?, for gods sakes a harley is more sophisticated... haha.

y must u delete all my posts coming back at u? cuz u know im right u just got powned by a 15 yr old how do u feel?

I deleted your last post because it was an exact repeat of the previous post that you made mixed with kiddie bullshit and un-necessary. You are a 15 year old ignorant little prick that makes "race" LAWN MOWERS, has never logged ANY DYNO time EVER to even know what "your work" has done, and you believe everything that your older cousin tells you and a site selling abrasive products...

You can talk to me and repeat your kiddie bullshit when you finally do port work on a REAL motor (R1/GSXR) and not your daddy's Sears ride on weed eater. When you people are done being stuck in the past (1940s technology) feel free to come back and speak to me with a feasible claim. I doubt very highly that your mom & pop weed wacker shop has a in-house Dyno but when it does be sure to post some print-outs of your gains.

We port using OUR IN HOUSE FACTORY PRO dyno (see image below) and know the results of our work and port accordingly - trust me the Dyno doesn't lie we know what methods work best. You are playing with a dremel, grinding stones, and some WD-40 on a Saturday afternoon porting 4 HP motors claiming gains short of a pussy fart with nothing to back them up but your big mouth.

I have to say that you have some hair on your nuts talking to me like that, just remember that I don't like baseball... :D

id like some proof of u having access to that dyno mabe a pic of it with u or a pic of the dyno with a yfz350 sign? then we,ll see if u actually do or if ur just full of it and actually ive dont chevy small block heads b4 and it was on a rear wheel dyno but other mods were done along with the porting/polish so i can say its all from that but my estimate would be a 20rrhp gain with a mild port polish and portmatching and i port jr dragster motors not rideon lawnmowers

It is funny how your story changes! The other night in chat you stated that you logged NO Dyno time at all, EVER, (pelphrey witnessed this conversation and a few others) but now you've moved from lawn mower motors to CHEVY SMALL BLOCK HEADS, quite a big jump... You would think if you did Chevy small block heads you would have mentioned that before as you ranted on in your previous posts serving us your bullshit "resume" and describing your detailed experience in porting with mowers....

Since you need to be spoon fed basically this means - IF YOU REALLY TOUCHED A SMALL BLOCK MOTOR YOU WOULD HAVE MENTIONED IT WAY BEFORE IN YOUR PREVIOUS THREADS "BRAGGING" ABOUT YOUR "EXTENSIVE" PORT "EXPERIANCE"! Hummmm. ...What is that smell? BULLSHIT!

I have some proof coming up for you.... hahahah I will make a special picture just for you at the shop!

Oh yea and WTF is a "YFZ350"? Dumb ass...
